The dog's numeric evaluation is listed alongside his or her name on the pedigree--so down the line it is much easier to get a good picture of each dog's temperament, and the heritability of different temperament components.
While this may not be as descriptive as a full critique, it certainly gives you a good picture of the dog's physical and mental qualities, and this is always useful, particularly when the dog is a few generations removed.
